This is the third-biggest sporting event in the world. It takes place 9 September to 23 October.   Up to 85,000 tourists will come to New Zealand. Teams from 20 countries will play 48 games. More than 4 billion people will be watching the games on television!   Already there’s a festival atmosphere. The New Zealand All Blacks have just won three warm-up games against Australia, Fiji and South Africa.   Students can choose go to matches – or just feel part of the fun. Special activities are being planned everywhere.

On opening night, 9 September, Auckland will hold the biggest party the city has ever seen.

In Wellington, people will be wearing rugby jerseys to work on Fridays. There will be a competition for dressing up homes, cars and offices with rugby-theme decorations.

Current situation in Egypt – April 28th 2011

Last month we were informed that some students are still worried by the media and unsure if they should come to Egypt. The media always exaggerates to make their articles more interesting and even embassy announcements are not always up to date. That is why I decided to drop you a few lines on the current situation in Cairo (28 of April 2011).

Cairo is calm. Most of our students and diplomats who left Cairo during the revolution time came back after Mubarak’s resignation. The daily life is back to normal. People are going to work every day, schools and universities are open, as well as shops and amusement centers. During weekends our students are going to clubs in Zamalek (the foreigners favourite part of Cairo) or are getting a of bit of suntan in one of the Egyptian sea resorts like Alexandria, Sharm El Shaikh, Hurgada or Sokhna. Most of the tourist areas and sites have reopened, so our students are taking the maximum advantage of their visit in Egypt before the crowds of tourists come back.

I personally feel perfectly safe in Cairo, I am from Poland, I am an ILI student and I also work as part of the ILI team. I am surprised when I read in some newspapers about new mass protests and violence in Cairo in April 2011! Maybe somebody mixed us up with Libya? I live in the central part of the city (Mohandeseen) and I go to work every day and quite honestly, I only find out about what is going on in Cairo by reading the newspapers.

There were some peaceful demonstration on 8th of April demanding the prosecution of the ousted president, Hosni Mubarak and his family, but this did not affect the normal life of people living and working in Cairo. Tahrir square has become a new tourist destination. Many tourists go there to take pictures of the famous square, but it is too late to have a nice photo with a tank as they disappeared from the streets at least a month ago

Thousands were celebrating in Sham el Nasim (the Egyptian national holiday marking the beginning of spring) on 25th of April in Tahrir Square this year. Is seems that Tahrir has become the new meeting place that can’t be missed!

So, daily life goes on as it did before revolution, the only difference is that you now have more freedom to express your opinions and people feel they really can do something to change their country and that it is worth a try.

Nach den Jahren der Verdrängung und Unterdrückung wollen die Menschen nun ein neues Ägypten aufbauen. Durch die Revolution hat Ägypten innerhalb weniger Wochen zahlreiche Touristen und Gäste des Landes verloren. Nun ist das Land dabei, das Vertrauen der internationalen Besucher zurückzugewinnen und sie wieder nach Ägypten zu locken. Doch bislang ist die Skepsis weiter groß. Dabei ist die innere Lage Ägyptens vielversprechend und gilt letztlich auch als sicher. Gemeinsam mit internationalen Unternehmen arbeiten die lokalen Touristikexperten an der Zurückgewinnung alter Ägypten-Liebhaber und der Gewinnung neuer Gäste.

Doch bei vielen stellt sich auch weiterhin die Frage, ob die Reisen nach Ägypten sicher sind. Dabei sind sich die Verantwortlichen bei dieser Frage einig. Reisen nach Ägypten gelten wieder als sicher und können problemlos von Urlaubern durchgeführt werden. Alle Dienstleister in dem Land haben ihre Arbeiten wieder aufgenommen. Neben den Flughäfen des Landes können auch die zahlreichen Hotelanlagen wieder auf einen normalen Betrieb verweisen. Auch die Sprachschulen des Landes haben ihren Betrieb wieder aufgenommen und bieten Sprachkurse für Erwachsene und Schüler an.

Auch DIREKT-Sprachreisen hält für Erwachsene Sprachreisen nach Ägypten bereit. Sie werden gemeinsam mit der Arabisch-Sprachschule ILI International Language Institut Kairo realisiert. Die Sprachschule gehört zur International House World Organisation und hat sich zugleich als eine der führenden Privatschulen für Arabisch als Fremdsprache etablieren können.
